Nathan Ong Norris Supports a Three Year Moratorium on Data Centers in Oregon

I support Senators Neron Misslin and Jeff Golden, Representatives Lesly Muñoz and Chaichi, and candidates Myrna Muñoz and Dr. Tammy Carpenter in their call today for a three-year moratorium on large-scale data center development in Oregon. 

Oregon is going to be on the forefront of the data center discussion for the foreseeable future; Currently, there are four data centers operating in Multnomah County, and additional sites being considered for development. Now is the time to develop regulations and standards to protect Oregonians’ land, air, and water, to ensure integrity of our energy grid, and to keep costs down for utility ratepayers. 

As Oregonians, we have to be focused on the long term health of our state and the people who live here. If data centers are going to be a part of that, we have to make sure they’re contributing positively and paying their fair share in taxes.
