Nathan Ong Norris Stands with the members of AFSCME 88 against the unilateral return to office mandate proposed by the county’s Board Chair and Chief Operating Officer (COO)

“On Monday, Multnomah County management – Board Chair Jessica Vega Pederson and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Chris Neal – unilaterally announced changes to county workers' working conditions. The announcement was made without consulting AFSCME Local 88, the largest union of Multnomah County employees, which violates the core principle of collaborative governance. 

I stand with the members of AFSCME 88 who are asking management to work with them to understand the distinct workplace needs across the county instead of enforcing rigid, across-the-board changes.

As workers, our labor unions are the mechanism through which we get a say in our working conditions. Management side-stepping that process ain’t right. If management will not voluntarily collaborate with the many workers and members of AFSCME 88, who do the actual work of the county on behalf of the people of Multnomah County, it is only right that union members use their power to demand the respect they deserve.”
